Focus groups for paraprofessionals interested in becoming teachers
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
As the Executive Director of a non-profit organization that has received a workforce development grant, I need to set up a series of focus groups for paraprofessionals/classroom assistants who are interested in becoming teachers. Each focus group should include 4-6 participants and the discussion should focus on the barriers they face as paraprofessionals transitioning to the role of teacher. Focus groups and/or interviews will also be conducted with school administrators to better understand the qualities and preparation they are looking for in teaching candidates. At the end of the series, I need a written summary of the results.
Preference will be given to applicants with a background in public education and those who are fluent speakers of English and Spanish. A total of 8 focus groups will be held in-person in Denver, CO during September. Four additional focus groups will be conducted in November/December to gain feedback on the initial program design. We anticipate this project will take approximately 30 hours to develop questions, conduct the focus groups, synthesize the results and write a report of the findings.
