I am a mysql idiot and I need help logging in a user to my server it's literally that simple. $20 for about 5 mins of help

I have a mysql server and I am trying to run a python script but I keep getting this error in python from mysql.
mysql.connector.errors.ProgrammingError: 1044 (42000): Access denied for user 'NAMEREDACTED'@'localhost' to database 'NAMEREDACTED'
I'm not exactly sure what I need but the mysql server is running, but I just cant login with this user. I can login via mysql workbench with the root user.
