SurgeCut: Surgical Video Editing App

Job ID: 40241441

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

Project Title

Desktop App for Automated Surgical Video Editing (MVP – Video Processing)

Project Description

I am a surgeon developing an innovation project focused on surgical education.

I am looking for a developer (or small team) to build the MVP of a desktop application called SurgeCut, designed to automatically condense long laparoscopic surgery videos into short educational highlights.

Project Context

Laparoscopic surgeries are recorded in full (1–6 hours), often split into multiple video files totaling 1–5GB (HD or 4K).

Manual editing is time-consuming and inefficient.

The goal is to create a desktop app that:
• Merges multiple video files automatically
• Detects low-activity moments (“dead time”)
• Removes those segments
• Generates a condensed highlight version
• Allows simple manual adjustments
• Supports text overlays and basic annotations

This is strictly for educational purposes (no patient identification involved).

MVP Scope (Simple Version)

The first version does NOT require advanced AI or deep learning.

Core features:
• Upload multiple video files
• Automatic video merging
• Frame-difference / motion-based analysis
• Automatic removal of low-motion segments
• Export condensed MP4 video
• Simple timeline interface for manual trimming
• Basic text/overlay insertion

No cloud required initially — local processing is preferred.

Preferred Tech Stack (Open to Suggestions)

Backend / Video Processing:
• Python
• OpenCV
• FFmpeg

Frontend:
• Electron / Tauri
• React or similar

Must support:
• Windows and Mac
• Efficient handling of large files (up to 5GB)

Project Type

MVP development with potential long-term expansion into:
• Advanced AI
• SaaS platform
• International commercialization

I am looking for someone with product mindset, not just coding skills.
