Solving ai problems with Answer set programming

Job ID: 32600265

Budget: £250 – £750 GBP

One of the main challenges in artificial intelligence is the development of solutions
for combinatorial search problems. These type of problems are inherent to applications
such as planning, scheduling, optimisation, team building, etc.

A possible way to tackle this kind of problems is by using ANSWER SET PROGRAMMING (ASP),
a knowledge-representation formalism based on logic programming. ASP is a declarative
language in which the user represents a problem as a logic-program whose models correspond
to the solutions of the problem — ideally it is not necessary to specify an algorithm to compute
solution.

The main aim of this project is to use ASP to solve a planning OR scheduling OR voting theory OR
optimisation problem. The exact type of problem will be determined depending on (i) availability
and (ii) student’s interest. Depending on the problem the development of a graphical interface
might be required.
