Python & PostgreSQL Developer with Map Server API Integration
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
I'm seeking a skilled developer to maintain and enhance features on an existing project. The primary focus will be on backend work using Python and PostgreSQL, as well as integrating with a Map Server API.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain existing codebase
- Improve performance
- Enhance features on backend and API integration
Ideal Skills and Experience:
- Strong proficiency in Python and PostgreSQL
- Experience with Map Server API
- Familiarity with Vue.js for potential frontend tasks
- Experience in code optimization and feature enhancement
Project Description:
We’re building a geospatial analysis tool and are looking for a backend developer with experience in Python, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, and Map Servers (e.g., GeoServer, MapServer, QGIS Server). Experience with Vue.js for frontend integration is highly valued.
The main goal is to upgrade a backend API that connects a PostgreSQL/PostGIS database with a frontend map application. The front end application need to be built from scratch.
The API should allow users to dynamically load/unload layers and filter geometries based on attributes. As a response receive geometries with they attributes from db.

Key Responsibilities:
• Analyse and update a Python-based API (FastAPI or Flask) for geospatial data access.
• Study and updated connections of the API to a PostgreSQL + PostGIS database.
• Build endpoints to:
o List all available layers.
o Connect/disconnect (toggle) specific layers on the frontend.
o Filter features based on attributes and return GeoJSON.
• Integrate with a Map Server (GeoServer, QGIS Server, or similar) for tile/vector delivery.
• (Optional) Build a Vue.js component or sample app to demonstrate:
o Layer control
o Filtering of map features

Core Features:
• CRUD for map layers
• Layer metadata (name, description, schema)
• Attribute filtering (e.g., by type, category, status)
• GeoJSON output
• Simple token-based security
• Filter toggle: Active / Inactive / All
________________________________________
Nice to Have:
• Vue.js frontend integration
• Docker-based setup
• Performance optimization for datasets with 500k+ geometries
• Caching (Redis or similar)
________________________________________
Deliverables:
• Python API source code (well-commented)
• PostgreSQL/PostGIS schema (with sample data)
• REST documentation (e.g., via Swagger/OpenAPI)
• Optional: Vue.js frontend example (basic layer toggle + filtering UI)
• README with setup instructions
________________________________________
Skills Required:
• Python (FastAPI or Flask)
• PostgreSQL / PostGIS
• GeoJSON, RESTful APIs
• Map Server experience (GeoServer, QGIS Server, etc.)
• Vue.js (preferred for frontend integration)
________________________________________
How to Apply:
Please submit:
• Relevant experience (especially with PostGIS or geospatial projects)
• Portfolio or GitHub (if available)
• Your preferred stack (FastAPI / Flask / other)
