Python Dev for Image Analysis Software

Job ID: 39225530

Budget: £18 – £36 GBP

Job Title
Python Developer for Image Analysis & Data Consolidation Software (Rolling Contract)
Project Overview
We are developing a proprietary image analysis application written in Python. The software captures images from which it calculated deformations, processes video streams, and records data from an external transducer through a USB data acquisition device. It outputs three CSV data files that need to be consolidated and expanded with additional calculated values. We are also looking to implement protection mechanisms against unauthorized code access and piracy.
Scope of Work
1. Software Completion & Enhancements
o Resolve existing bugs and finalize core functionality.
o Refine features related to image capture, measurement, and data logging.
o Integrate additional measurement outputs from external analytical tools into the consolidated data file.
2. Data Consolidation
o Currently, the application produces separate text/CSV files (including two from video measurements and one from a load cell device).
o Consolidate these outputs into a single comprehensive file.
o Include new computed values from additional measurement algorithms.
3. Software Protection
o Implement mechanisms (e.g., using Cython or similar approaches) to compile or obfuscate Python source code.
o Explore licensing or activation schemes (license keys, offline activation, etc.) to minimize the risk of unauthorized usage and piracy.
4. Offline Installation Support
o Ensure the software can be installed on machines without internet access.
o Develop and document an offline installation procedure using local package repositories (with dependencies such as qtpy, PyQt5/PyQt6, numpy, opencv-python, matplotlib, pyserial, setuptools, platformdirs, argon2-cffi).
5. Future Variations & Maintenance
o Develop specialized variations of the standard software to address individual client requirements.
o Provide ongoing updates, bug fixes, and comprehensive documentation.
Required Skills & Experience
• Python (3.x): Strong proficiency, especially in data manipulation. Experience with image processing would be useful, but isn’t essential as we already have those resources
• OpenCV: Experience with video capture and frame analysis is advantageous, but not essential
• PyQt / QtPy: Familiarity with GUI development or working within Qt-based interfaces.
• Data Handling: Proficiency in CSV or text-based data manipulation and consolidation.
• Offline Packaging: Experience with creating Python distributions (e.g., wheels) and handling offline installations.
• Code Protection Techniques: Basic knowledge of code obfuscation or compilation (e.g., using Cython).
• A reasonable level of math
Nice-to-Have Skills
• Familiarity with licensing or activation systems.
• Knowledge of continuous integration and version control systems (GitHub).
• Image analysis skills.
Contract Details
• Type: Rolling contract, with weekly renewals based on performance and milestones.
• Hours: 10–40 hours per week (flexible based on workload and your availability).
• Hourly Rate: $20–$40, commensurate with experience and output quality.
• Location: Fully remote; candidates must communicate effectively in English.
• Payment: Weekly payments via Freelancer (or through your preferred platform arrangement).
What We Offer
• Long-Term Collaboration: Potential for ongoing work and feature expansion.
• Flexible Work Environment: Remote work with flexible hours, as long as milestones are met.
• Challenging Projects: Opportunity to work on advanced image analysis and data processing.
• Competitive Compensation: Hourly rates based on experience and contributions.
Application Requirements
1. Cover Letter: Provide a brief summary of your relevant experience with Python, image analysis, and similar projects.
2. Sample Work: Share GitHub links or code samples demonstrating your skills in image processing, GUI development, or offline packaging.
3. Availability: Indicate your expected weekly hours and time zone.
