Open Source Python Developer
Budget: €8 – €26 EUR
Are you looking for freelance work that truly makes a difference?
Do you want your code to support an NGO helping people with serious diseases?
Would you like to contribute to an open-source project with social impact?
For the past 7 years, we’ve been building and maintaining an application that supports NGO staff in their daily work. The system combines a clean, user-friendly interface with a reliable backend. We occasionally need new features, fixes, and improvements, and we’re looking for a skilled developer to step in when needed.
Our stack includes:
- Python RESTful API with unit tests (PyTest)
- MongoDB database
- Simple HTML/CSS/JS frontend
- GitLab for code hosting and issue tracking
Your role:
- Maintain and improve the Python backend when needed
- Review code and contribute best practices
- Collaborate with another lead developer
- Communicate directly with NGO staff (English, spoken & written)
- Optional: work on Dockerization or frontend refactoring if interested
What we’re looking for:
- Excellent Python and PyTest skills
- Minimalistic and future-proof coding mindset
- Proven active participation in open-source projects (GitHub/GitLab profile required)
- Comfortable with contribution workflows (PRs, reviews, issue tracking)
- Clear English communication (non-native speakers welcome)
- Based in Europe, working on Linux/Mac systems
This is not a full-time role – you’ll be engaged occasionally when new developments are required.
If you’re passionate about purposeful work and can demonstrate your open-source involvement, we’d love to hear from you.
For applying:
1. Mention the top 3 Open Source projects you have been contributing to with their source code.
2. Tell us what is the best practice you apply when doing test-driven development.
We do not reply to automated messages.
