Help with simple personal Django project:

Run system commands and show output in real-time
Requirements: Docker, Django, Javascript, Python
I'm working on a personal project and need a little help. I have a systems engineering background but am writing a single-page web app to help sharpen my devops skills. I'm writing it using docker and django. Currently the page has one function, to run a whois on a domain and show the results. I have it working using Django/jquery/ajax.but I need help making a few changes.
1.) Right now I'm using a python-whois function but I want to use the os.system function instead, so I can re-use the code to create new functions such as dns lookups.
2.) I want the page to have one large output box for all commands/functions. I want this output box to update in real-time as the commands run and return. I was trying to use websockets and django channels but gave up on both as I need help. I'm open to any frameworks such as vue, angular, etc if they make it easier.
3.) I am terrible at design, I'd like the page themed to look professional (dark colors, techy feeling). I'd like the right ~50% side of the screen dedicated for the output box.
4.) Error handling for both the form data validation and system.os return failure.
I'm currently hosting the code on gitlab and would prefer to work out of that repository. I'll grant access via ssh key preferably.
