Help with Python Programming code

Hi, I need a little help in understanding how to use source code and an application a previous Freelancer wrote for me, they are no longer active on here and I don`t know how to use the code I have.
Ok so basically this code and application that was created for me is a PDF converter, it searches for a text string and changes the date on the PDF, I have Source code, and an application that I am guessing the source code is put into, when the application is run I browse to the PDF I want to convert and import it, the date is changed and the PDF is then automatically saved under a new file name with the new date.
I will explain more if I find someone to help me, as I have all the coding this will be simple for somebody who understands Python and its uses etc...
