Develop Game Backend using Nakama in TypeScript
Budget: $25 – $50 USD
Looking for an experienced TypeScript developer for a ~2 month project: A backend system built using Nakama (an open-source game backend framework).
Nakama comes with a lot of the required features already built-in (database access, authentication, friends system, leaderboards, and other game-centric features), but we need help developing the features specific to our upcoming mobile game.

Background:
We're developing a backend system for our upcoming mobile card game. This would not be our first mobile game and backend system - our existing card game catalog runs on a 10-year old backend system built on Django (using python+Postgres). The reason for changing backend systems for this project is moving to a more stable, more flexible system (Nakama) that is tried and tested and allows us to focus purely on the functionality. Nakama offers exactly that, so we chose it to build our backend on top of.
We are looking for an experienced TypeScript developer, preferably with experience in database design (document-based DB).
You will be writing code on top of the Nakama framework, which already facilitates the low-level functionality and lets you focus on developing features. It supports Postgres and CockroachDB, and interfaces with them as a generic document-based database solution. It supports writing code in Golang, TypeScript, and Lua - but we chose TypeScript because our dev team is most familiar with it.
What we need to be developed:
- API to be consumed on the client side (game) that perform certain actions (list game rooms, leveling system, achievements logic, virtual currencies, etc..)
- Data schemas and database design based on our requirements.
- [Bonus] Develop multiplayer logic (we already have the code for that, but written in C#).
- [Bonus] Migrate user accounts from existing backend database into the new database.
Required Experience
- Experience in developing back-end systems.
- Proficiency in TypeScript.
- Experience in database design (document-based DB).
- Experience in making backend architecture recommendations.
- Experience with GIT source control.
C# proficiency is a plus!
