About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Editorial and Platform Growth Assistant with deep expertise in Substack and Medium to manage, and grow multiple publications across both platforms.Publications have already been set up but more may be needed.
-This role focuses entirely on platform setup, publishing operations, algorithm optimization, and audience growth.
-You will not be responsible for writing content.
-All articles, essays, stories, and commentary will be provided by the author.
Your responsibility is to ensure the publications are professionally structured, strategically optimized, and positioned for maximum visibility, distribution, and subscriber growth.
You should have deep hands-on experience using Substack and Medium and understand the mechanics, tactics, and algorithmic factors that drive reach on both platforms.
You will be responsible for managing the following publications:
Substack (4 Publications)
2 Nonfiction publications
2 Fiction publications
Medium (3 Publications)
1 Nonfiction publication
2 Fiction publications
The author will provide all content.
Your role is to set up, optimize, publish, distribute, and grow these publications.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Setup and Configuration
Set up and optimize four Substack publications
Set up and optimize three Medium publications
Configure publication structure, categories, tags, and metadata
Establish a clear publishing workflow across platforms
Publishing Operations
Format and publish all content for maximum readability and engagement
Optimize titles, subtitles, preview text, and tags
Manage publishing schedules
Implement formatting strategies used by high-performing Substack and Medium publications
Algorithm and Growth Optimization
Apply advanced tactics to increase article distribution
Optimize posts for:
Medium recommendation engine
Medium curation
Substack recommendations
Substack Notes ecosystem
Implement strategies that increase:
article reads
follower growth
subscriber conversion
Audience Growth
Develop and execute strategies to grow:
Substack subscribers
Medium followers
Identify tactics used by high-performing creators and publications
Improve discoverability and platform visibility
Analytics and Continuous Improvement
Monitor performance metrics
Identify patterns in high-performing posts
Recommend improvements to publishing strategy, tagging, and distribution timing
Required Qualifications
Deep Platform Expertise
Strong hands-on experience with both Substack and Medium
Demonstrated experience growing readership or subscribers
Deep understanding of:
