Urgent Appeal for U.S. Leadership to End the Wars in Sudan and South Sudan
Dear President Trump,
I write to you with deep concern regarding the ongoing wars in Sudan and South Sudan—conflicts that continue to claim innocent lives, displace millions, and destabilize the wider region of Africa.
Your presidency demonstrated that decisive leadership and direct engagement can change the course of long-standing conflicts. Today, the people of Sudan and South Sudan urgently need such leadership again. The wars are no longer political struggles alone; they have become humanitarian catastrophes marked by ethnic division, economic collapse, famine risk, and the suffering of women and children.
We respectfully urge you to use your influence to call for:
• An immediate and verifiable ceasefire in both Sudan and South Sudan
• Pressure on all armed actors to halt violence against civilians
• Support for inclusive political dialogue leading to democratic civilian governance
• Regional and international coordination to enforce peace commitments
• A clear pathway toward reconciliation, unity, and one professional national army accountable to civilian authority
The United States has historically played a pivotal role in shaping peace efforts in the region. Strong American engagement—moral, diplomatic, and strategic—can help silence the guns and open the door to a future built on dignity, unity, and democracy.
History will remember leaders who chose peace over silence. The people of Sudan and South Sudan are calling for justice, stability, and an end to war. We hope you will stand with them.
