Publishing my Novel

Hello. I have written a science-fiction novel about a year ago. I tried contacting publishing houses online, and nothing worked out. One response I recieved was " You deserve an unequivocally enthusiastic agent as your advocate." Now I am starting to work on a second novel, but I realized that I need a publisher even more.
Hence I am looking for an agent who could get me a contract with a publisher, or anything that helps boosting my story.
