Australian PR & Media Relations Specialist — PropTech Startup Launch

Job ID: 40620349

Budget: $2 – $75 AUD

About Us
We're an Australian property technology startup preparing for a national launch. Our platform helps people make better property decisions before they commit by bringing together complex government information into a single, easy-to-understand report. The product is designed for homebuyers, buyers' agents, mortgage brokers and investors, helping them identify costly property risks that are often difficult, time-consuming or expensive to uncover. We'll share our brand, website and product with shortlisted candidates.

The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Australian PR & Media Relations Specialist who can generate meaningful earned media. This is not a press release writing role. We need someone with genuine Australian media relationships who knows how to get journalists interested in a story and secure coverage. This is an initial one-month paid engagement with the potential for ongoing work if the campaign performs well.

IMPORTANT — please read before applying
This role requires real, existing relationships with Australian journalists and editors. If you do not have Australian media contacts, this is not the right project for you, and a generic application is unlikely to be considered. We're prioritising results over volume.

What You'll Do
- Develop compelling media angles around property, consumer protection and technology.
- Build a targeted Australian media list.
- Write media pitches and supporting press materials.
- Personally pitch journalists, editors and producers.
- Secure feature articles, expert commentary and earned media coverage.
- Manage journalist relationships and follow up through to publication.
- Advise on launch strategy, exclusives and media timing.
- Provide weekly reporting outlining outreach, responses and coverage achieved.

Target Media
We're looking to generate coverage across three key areas.

Mainstream Australian News — consumer stories relating to property, buyer protection and public interest. Examples: news.com.au, ABC, Nine, Seven, Guardian Australia, SBS.

Property & Real Estate Media — examples: realestate.com.au, Domain, API Magazine, The Urban Developer, mortgage and broker publications, property podcasts.

Business, Technology & Startup Media — examples: Australian Financial Review, Startup Daily, SmartCompany, Capital Brief, InnovationAus, technology podcasts.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has
- Existing relationships with Australian journalists and editors.
- A proven track record of personally securing earned media.
- Experience working with startups, technology companies or consumer products.
- Excellent media pitching and writing skills.
- A strong understanding of the Australian media landscape.

Experience in PropTech, real estate, fintech, climate, insurance or consumer protection is highly regarded.

Engagement
- Initial one-month paid engagement, hourly.
- Direct communication with the founder — no agency layers.
- Opportunity for ongoing work based on performance.

In your proposal, please answer:
1. Which Australian journalists, editors or producers do you already have relationships with? Please name the publications and, where appropriate, the journalists you've successfully worked with.
2. What are three media placements you've personally secured? Please include links where possible.
3. If you had to secure one major story within the first two weeks, which publication would you target, who would you pitch, and what headline would you lead with?
4. Tell us about a startup launch campaign you've worked on — your role, and what coverage you secured.
5. What is your hourly rate, and what is your current weekly availability?

Applications that don't demonstrate genuine Australian media relationships or a proven history of securing earned media are unlikely to be considered.
