Psychoalitic overview

I need to create an overview to show a critical appreciation of the Freudian-Lacanian understanding of the singularity of the human subject as distinct from the generality of personality types implicit in psychological approaches.

An essay on the topic Lacan’s paternal metaphor. In the essay it is expected to demonstrate a critical understanding of the psychoanalytic assertion that the human subject is essentially a speaking being. referencing the importance of language, the Lacanian concept of desire, the concept of the phallus (both imaginary and symbolic), and what role these elements play in the paternal metaphor.

It would also be beneficial to have some knowledge of Freud’s theory of the Oedipus complex, and the symbolic reorientation that Lacan introduces with his knowledge of Saussurean linguistics (the signifier, structure etc).
