ESP8266 IoT Trainer PCB Design

I am building a hands-on trainer kit series and the first board in the lineup is an ESP8266-based IoT controller. I already know the core feature set I need—reliable sensor integration, solid wireless communication and on-board data logging—so your task is to translate those requirements into a clean, production-ready PCB.

Scope of work
• Schematic capture and PCB layout for the ESP8266 module (ESP-12 or similar) with break-outs for common digital/analog sensors, UART/SPI/I²C headers and a micro-SD slot for logging.
• Keep-alive circuitry, 3 V / 5 V level shifting where needed, and a regulated power stage that accepts both USB-C and external DC input.
• Generation of manufacturing outputs: Gerber, drill files, pick-and-place, and full BOM with part numbers in stock at at least one major supplier (e.g., Mouser, Digi-Key).
• Source files in KiCad, Altium, or Eagle—whichever you prefer—plus a brief design note so future revisions stay painless.

Acceptance criteria
1. Board size fits within 80 mm × 60 mm (single or double-sided acceptable).
2. All chosen GPIOs remain free of boot-mode conflicts.
3. Maximum Wi-Fi RSSI drop <2 dBm versus reference dev-kit during bench test.
4. Clear silkscreen labelling of every pin to suit a teaching environment.

When you respond, include a concise proposal showing how you plan to meet the above points, any similar boards you have shipped before, and estimated lead time for first-pass Gerbers. I will review proposals on completeness and past demonstrable success, then move quickly to award so we can get the board into fabrication and onto the lab bench.
