Nonfiction Book Editor (Line + Copy Editing) – Professional Practice / Financial Advisory
Budget: $1,000 – $1,800 USD
Description:
I’m seeking an experienced nonfiction editor for a completed manuscript (~35,000–45,000 words) focused on professional practice design for experienced solo financial advisors.
This is a structured, reflective book—not a marketing or “how to scale your business” book. The tone is calm, mentorship-oriented, and written for a mature audience.
I am looking for an editor who can improve clarity, flow, and consistency while preserving the author’s voice.
Scope of Work:
Line editing (primary focus)
Improve clarity and flow
Reduce repetition
Tighten language without changing tone
Light copyediting
Grammar, punctuation, and consistency
Basic style consistency across chapters
This manuscript already has a defined structure and chapter framework. I am not seeking heavy developmental editing or restructuring.
Tone & Style Requirements (Important):
This book intentionally avoids:
hype or promotional tone
“punchy” business-book language
industry criticism or commentary
The voice is:
thoughtful
measured
peer-to-peer
grounded in real professional experience
The editor should preserve this tone rather than attempting to make the writing more energetic or market-driven.
Experience Requirements:
Please apply only if you have experience editing:
nonfiction books (not just blogs or articles)
professional / business or thought-leadership content
long-form structured manuscripts
Bonus if you have worked with:
professional services (finance, law, consulting, etc.)
essay-style or reflective nonfiction
Process:
I will request a paid sample edit (5–10 pages) to assess fit before selecting an editor for the full manuscript.
The project will likely be structured in two phases:
Initial chapters (test fit)
Full manuscript
Deliverables:
Edited manuscript with tracked changes
Occasional comments where clarification is needed
Clean, professional editing without over-rewriting
Timeline:
Flexible, but ideally completed within 3–5 weeks once the full manuscript is underway.
To Apply:
Please include:
Brief description of your editing approach
Relevant nonfiction book experience
Sample projects (preferably books)
Your typical process for line editing
