Copy editor for 173K word novel - 27/08/2023 15:56 EDT -- 2
Budget: $500 – $1,000 USD
I'm looking for a copy editor who can proofread my 173K word fictional epic family saga. This
story follows five generations of a Scots-Irish family from Scotland to Northern Ireland, to
America and back to Northern Ireland. Over the span of about 100 years the men of the Broom
family faced historically accurate depictions of two world wars, domestic and international
violence, political upheavals, eras of depression and growth, and the joys and struggles of love,
marriage, birth, divorce, and death. There is a general running theme of each generation feeling
the need to have a plan to make life easier for his successor and yet questioning its value. No
two successive generations have similar personalities.
The book is in its ninth iteration and has been read completely by two groups of beta readers, each offering constructive criticism, and each telling me that she found the book easily readable and moving. In each case, I believe I was able to produce a stronger and cleaner product. I have four new readers currently reading the book. As soon as I incorporate the next round of relevant changes, hopefully before the end of September, I’d like to have the book copy edited. I understand that would include proofreading for grammar and punctuation, checking for readability, consistency in voice (both mine and my characters’), syntax, and flow. The book is written in American English.
