Residential NFPA 13D Fire Sprinkler Plan Revision and Hydraulic Calculations
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Project Location: San Diego County, California
I am seeking an experienced residential fire sprinkler designer to revise an existing NFPA 13D fire sprinkler plan for a new single-family residence with a Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit, or JADU, in San Diego County, California.
The existing fire sprinkler drawings were designed using a 1¼-inch fire meter and underground water service. However, Valley Center Municipal Water District installed the following:
1-inch fire meter
1-inch service lateral from the water main
1-inch auxiliary double-check assembly
San Diego County Fire has directed me to submit revised fire sprinkler plans, hydraulic calculations, and product specification sheets directly to County Fire for review and approval.
Existing Documents
The current fire sprinkler package includes four sheets, F1 through F4.
A limited pressure calculation appears on Sheet F2, but a complete, separate, node-by-node hydraulic calculation report was not provided.
The selected designer must review the existing system layout and prepare a complete and defensible hydraulic calculation based on the actual installed 1-inch water service.

Full approved architectural plan set
Current architectural CAD files, if needed and available
Water district confirmation of the installed fire service components

NFPA 13D residential sprinkler system

Approximately 75 feet from the fire service connection to the building
Approximately 14.5 feet of elevation rise from the service connection to the building
Preliminary available pressure assumption: 50 psi, subject to verification by the designer
Existing sprinkler head shown on plans: Senju RC-RES, K4.9
Actual installed fire meter, lateral, and auxiliary double-check assembly: 1 inch
The designer must determine whether the private underground fire line should remain 1¼ inches downstream of the 1-inch meter or be revised to 1 inch.
All final pipe sizes must be supported by the hydraulic calculations and acceptable to San Diego County Fire.
Scope of Work
The selected designer will be responsible for the following:
Review the existing F1 through F4 fire sprinkler drawings and the latest approved architectural plans.
Coordinate the sprinkler layout with the approved room dimensions, ceiling conditions, and building configuration.
Revise the water-supply information to accurately reflect:
1-inch fire meter
1-inch service lateral
1-inch auxiliary double-check assembly
Actual underground pipe length
Actual elevation rise
Prepare complete hydraulic calculations for the hydraulically most demanding sprinkler design area.
Include all applicable pressure losses, including:
Water meter loss
Double-check or backflow assembly loss
Underground fire-service piping
Elevation loss
Fittings and valves
Interior sprinkler piping
Sprinkler demand
Provide a clear node-by-node hydraulic calculation report.
Include an appropriate hydraulic safety margin above the minimum calculated system demand.
Identify and correct any conflicting, incomplete, or unsupported flow and pressure information in the existing plans.
Revise pipe sizes only where supported by the hydraulic calculations.
Update all affected plan information, including:
Riser diagram
Water-supply information
Pipe-size callouts
Sprinkler-head callouts
Notes
Legends
Material schedules
Hydraulic reference points
Design criteria
Assemble the applicable product specification sheets for:
Residential sprinkler heads
Underground and interior piping
Fire meter, if applicable
Auxiliary double-check or backflow assembly
Valves and other listed system components
Prepare a clean and coordinated package suitable for direct submission to San Diego County Fire.
Provide one reasonable correction cycle for County Fire comments related to this scope of work.
