InDesign Script Development to Generate a Complete Book Using JSON Data and an Existing .INDD Template
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I am looking for an experienced Adobe InDesign scripter (JavaScript/ExtendScript) to create a script that automatically generates a full book layout.
The workflow will be as follows:
Input Data Source: A JSON file that contains all the content needed for the book (text blocks, titles, subtitles, sections, lists, etc.).
Design Template: I will provide an already finished .INDD file that represents the exact layout and formatting the final book should follow.
Goal: The script must read the JSON and automatically populate the InDesign template, generating a complete, properly formatted book identical to the sample .INDD layout.
Key Requirements
Strong experience with Adobe InDesign Scripting (ExtendScript / JSX).
Ability to parse JSON and correctly map each field into the InDesign document.
The script must:
Insert text in the correct frames and pages.
Respect all paragraph styles, character styles, spacing, and layout rules.
Duplicate pages and structures as needed (chapters, sections, etc.).
Handle long text flows and auto-pagination.
Support images (if included in the JSON).
Output should look exactly like the provided .INDD sample, only with content replaced by the JSON data.
Deliverables
A fully working .jsx script compatible with InDesign (Windows).
Documentation on how to run the script.
Optional: A short video demo of the process (not required but appreciated).
