Building an Interactive Wallpaper

I want to see on my desktop (As a wallpaper), an interactive screen that shows particular things like currency, LME etc which can be obtained from websites. I do not want the those info to be movable on the screen or something like that. Maybe I can add notepad area and from the program I can change what is written. The idea is sort of similar to wallpaper engine available on Steam.
