You are to propose a design for a lower limb prosthetic device (Transfemoral
amputee) that will allow the user to sit, stand and walk independently. This
device will be a hypothetical design. Inspirations (help) can be taken from
existing designs using research and journal papers. Self-made (Hand
drawing/SolidWorks/BioRender designs) are encouraged. You can also use a
drawing(s) from the internet that describe the device, provided it is referenced.
In proposing a design, think about the category (age, activity level, etc) of
transfemoral amputee the device is aimed at.
• The Prosthetic device technical report should incorporate:
1. Physical make-up of the different components: material properties, weight,
shape/construction, durability, etc.
2. Dynamic function: consider how the reproduction of gait and of standing and
sitting is incorporated in the design of the device. Highlight what design
requirements are considered most important, and why.
3. Discuss how, and what, impact commercial and economic drivers could
have on your proposed design.
