Freelance Sourcing Agent
Budget: $5,000 – $10,000 USD
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Sourcing Agent based in China or Hong Kong to manage end-to-end procurement of machinery and industrial equipment. This role combines technical machinery evaluation, supplier sourcing, cost optimization, and logistics coordination. The ideal candidate will help identify inefficiencies, recommend upgrades, and secure cost-effective solutions while liaising with local manufacturers and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Evaluation & Advisory
• Assess existing machinery and production processes.
• Identify inefficiencies and recommend cost-effective, modern solutions.
• Conduct preliminary cost-benefit analysis for machinery upgrades.
2. Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
• Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable manufacturers and suppliers across China.
• Conduct factory visits and supplier capability assessments.
• Procure machinery, equipment, and components aligned with business requirements.
3. Cost Optimization & Negotiation
• Negotiate pricing, commercial terms
• Propose alternative sourcing strategies to optimize costs.
• Ensure procurement aligns with budget and operational objectives.
4. Quality Control & Implementation
• Oversee product sampling, testing, and inspections.
• Coordinate installation, commissioning, or upgrades of machinery if needed.
• Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
5. Logistics & Execution
• Manage the end-to-end procurement cycle.
• Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs agents, and logistics providers.
• Ensure timely delivery and proper documentation.
6. Reporting & Stakeholder Coordination
• Provide regular updates on sourcing progress, risks, and cost savings.
• Act as a bridge between suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Support strategic decisions with market insights and recommendations.
Eligibility & Skills:
• Any education degree is acceptable, as long the candidate is passionate about their work
• Minimum 3 years working experience, be it full time, part time or entrepreneurial freelance project.
• Based in China or Hong Kong
• Willing to travel outside of China or abroad for business meetings, including Europe or other South East Asia countries.
• 7. Must have prior travel experiences outside of China.
• Strong technical understanding of machinery, automation, or production systems.
• Fluency in English and Chinese.
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a freelance/project-based setup.
• Experience with factory setup, process optimization, or industrial improvement is a plus.
• Experience with global manufacturers e.g. Samsung, Foxconn, is preferred.
