PhD-Level Aspen Custom Modeler (ACM) Replication of RPB CO₂ Stripper Model (Carbon Capture)
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
This is a highly challenging, research-level task that requires strong expertise in chemical engineering and advanced process simulation, particularly Aspen Plus and Aspen Custom Modeler (ACM).
The project involves replicating the following paper fully in (Aspen Custom Modeler Only):
Joel et al. (2017) – Modelling, simulation and analysis of intensified regenerator (CO₂ stripper) for solvent-based carbon capture using rotating packed bed (RPB) technology
Paper link (also attached to this project for direct download):
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S030626191730692X
The original model was implemented using Aspen Plus FORTRAN subroutines. The goal is to rebuild the RPB CO₂ stripper model natively in ACM, validate it using Cheng et al. pilot-plant data, and document the full modeling procedure.
Scope (Summary)
Develop a complete Aspen Custom Modeler (ACM) model of an RPB CO₂ stripper/regenerator
Implement mass & energy balances, reaction kinetics, and mass and heat transfer correlations and every other correlation.
Validate the model using experimental pilot-plant data provided in the paper (Cheng data)
Deliver:
ACM model file
Excel file for validation and comparison
Word document describing assumptions, equations, and step-by-step ACM implementation
Expertise Required
✔ Advanced Aspen Custom Modeler (ACM) (mandatory)
✔ Deep understanding of Aspen Plus subroutines
✔ Gas–liquid mass transfer & CO₂ stripping
✔ Rotating Packed Bed (RPB) modeling
✔ Strong numerical modeling background
PhD holders or candidates with equivalent research experience are strongly preferred.
Important Notes
This is not a basic Aspen simulation project
To avoid wasting your time and mine, please apply only if you have proven ACM and advanced modeling experience
Compensation will be generous and reflect the technical difficulty
If any references cited in the paper are not accessible, I will be happy to obtain and share them with you.
When Applying, Please Include
Your experience with Aspen Custom Modeler
Examples of research-level or custom ACM models you have developed
Your academic/professional background (PhD preferred)
Estimated timeframe
