This project involves the design and implementation of a high-voltage, variable 10 kV DC power supply based on Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) technology. The objective is to generate a stable, adjustable high-voltage DC output with improved efficiency, compact size, and precise control compared to conventional linear or transformer-based high-voltage supplies.
The system operates by converting the input power (AC mains or DC source) into a high-frequency switched waveform using an SMPS controller. This high-frequency signal drives a high-voltage flyback transformer, enabling efficient voltage step-up with galvanic isolation. The transformer secondary output is rectified and filtered using high-voltage fast recovery diodes and capacitors. To reach the required 10 kV DC level, a Cockcroft–Walton voltage multiplier (if required) may be employed at the secondary stage.
