I’m enhancing an existing Ruby on Rails application and need a new real-time data analytics feature built end-to-end.
Scope
• Extend the current app with a clean, modular service or engine that ingests live data streams, processes them instantly, and surfaces key metrics on the frontend.
• Use idiomatic Rails practices (ActiveJob, Sidekiq/Resque, ActionCable or Hotwire) so the codebase stays maintainable.
• Write concise unit and integration tests to cover core logic and edge cases.
• Deliver lightweight documentation—README and inline comments—so my team can maintain and iterate on the feature later.
Tech context
The app runs Rails 7, Ruby 3.2, PostgreSQL, and Redis. I’m open to the libraries you prefer for streaming or background processing as long as they fit smoothly into this stack.
Success criteria
• Live metrics appear on a dashboard with sub-second refresh.
• No noticeable slowdown under typical traffic (we’ll run a simple load test together).
• Code merges cleanly, all tests green, and rubocop passes.
