We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cloud Database Engineer with deep specialization in PostgreSQL migrations and distributed database infrastructure.

This role is for a demanding enterprise client, so we require a proven track record of successful large-scale cloud database migrations with verifiable experience.

You must be comfortable working during UK business hours and collaborating with cross-functional cloud and infrastructure teams.

Role Summary

Senior Cloud Database Engineer – PostgreSQL Migration Architect – Data Infrastructure Expert

You will lead and architect complex PostgreSQL migrations across AWS and Azure environments, ensuring minimal downtime, high performance, and enterprise-grade security.

Required Expertise

PostgreSQL and Architecture

* Deep expertise in PostgreSQL internals
* Strong understanding of logical and physical replication
* Hands-on experience with distributed PostgreSQL (Citus architecture)
* Experience with hybrid OLTP and analytics workloads

Cloud Platforms

* Strong operational experience with:

* AWS RDS (PostgreSQL)
* Azure Cosmos DB
* Expertise in:

* VPC peering
* Secure networking setup
* IAM policy management
* Secure cross-cloud data transfer

Migration and Tooling

* Proven experience leading large-scale PostgreSQL migrations
* Expertise with:

* pg_dump
* COPY
* AWS DMS
* ETL pipelines
* Audit-based delta synchronization strategies
* Focus on zero or near-zero downtime migrations

Connection Pooling and Performance

* Experience with:

* RDS Proxy
* PgBouncer
* High-concurrency workload optimization
* Performance tuning for distributed PostgreSQL clusters

Ideal Candidate Profile

* 7+ years of database engineering experience
* Demonstrated success in cloud-to-cloud PostgreSQL migrations
* Strong documentation and architecture design skills
* Experience supporting distributed PostgreSQL clusters (Citus or similar)
* Comfortable handling enterprise-scale production systems
* Excellent communication skills (client-facing experience preferred)
