Set in current events, Foreign and Domestic follows the protagonist a mid level federal employee who while working stumbles upon correspondence revealing a shadow government (deep state), with a complete parallel government.
Unsure of what to do the protagonist tells a senior friend in the same agency, only to suddenly have the same friend killed in front of him the very next day in the bright of day. Going to his friend's home to settle effects, the protagonist finds a file named "Dark State" in it, pictures and allegations of criminality both foreign and domestic.
As the series develops, the noose closes around our protagonist with the dark forces of the Shadow Government exposing themselves in increasingly bolder means without regard to consequences.
We finally see that the friend who was killed much earlier is yet alive, not only alive but a powerful General in this enterprise delivering our protagonist to the seat of power influence and evil...a former president of the United States.
