Assignment (Critical Essay on Poetry)
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
Assignment (Critical Essay on Poetry): Write a critical essay on one of the poems that
we have read, or you can write on Walt Whitman’s poem Song of Myself which we will
be reading starting next week. If you wish, you can write on more than one poem by
comparing/contrasting the poems based on a particular aspect that you find interesting. It
should be an Argument essay giving your own personal interpretation of the poem as a
whole, or of an aspect(s) that you find most interesting. For example, a major theme(s),
the writer’s use of language (style, tone, description, etc). Quote single lines and/or brief
passages in the poem to support your discussion. Use MLA format. Underline your
Thesis Sentence. 3 pages.
