Residential Water Connection Installation
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
I need a new water connection installed for my residence.
Ideal skills and experience:
- Experience with residential plumbing
- Knowledge of local building codes and regulations
- Ability to obtain necessary permits
- Professional plumbing certification
DWG CAD file – this must include
• OS background – OS background (Ordnance Survey) is required for scale, layout and measurements of new mains and services. If this is not accurate it will affect the overall cost of the scheme and possibly cause delays to the design or construction
• Plot Numbers – All plots onsite to be numbered so the number and location of services are correct
• Points of Entry – Point of entry to site and flats are needed for bulk supplies. Point of Entry to each house is required when mains are to be installed. Point of entry for fire systems need to be provided (this can be accepted as a pdf)
• Landlord/Bin Supply Locations – as these can be in a different location to the buildings onsite, they need to be marked up on the dwg file (this can be accepted as a pdf)
• Service Strip – Location of other services onsite, or a 2m strip site have designated for all services
• Other new utilities – Where a 2m service strip or footpath is not available, a PDF or DWG of all routes for other new utilities also being laid onsite are required to ensure adequate separation between mains and services to prevent overcrowding and maintain safe installation practices. Please refer to NJUG guidelines within the below link for further guidance (Volume 2: https://streetworks.org.uk/resources/publications).
• Preferred Route of mains – If you have a preferred route then please provide this information. Please note that we do have a code of practice to follow so your route might not be acceptable (this can be accepted as a pdf)
• Clear site boundary – A clear site boundary is needed to determine the on and offsite design, traffic management, permits required, CDM assessments, excavation, and reinstatement for the scheme. This will affect the costs and risks redesigns and delays at a later date if incorrect
A DWG file for the development must be received in order for us to proceed with your application (A converted pdf to dwg will not suffice). It would be preferable if it is to scale and at the correct co-ordinates & measurements must be in Metres, not MM.
Please speak to your design team/architect about this. This information must be on 1 DWG file and not issued on several files
Can you please confirm the following information? -
• Planning Application – Please provide your planning application reference number & advise whether or not planning permission has been granted. If planning permission has not yet been granted then we will require you to make a Pre-Development Application instead.
• Infrastructure Credits – Are there already service connection within your proposed site? If there are then you will accumulate credits towards anymore further connections
• Soil Report – The designs can be completed without this information but if this isn’t provided then ALPE will be used automatically to reduce the risk of water contamination. Our Water Quality team will review the report and determine if ALPE or HPPE is required.
• Temporary Building Supply. Does the site require a TBS? This can be included on the mains design but you will not have water until the main has been designed, installed and made live. If you require a TBS on site ASAP then please make an application for a TBS via our website. Please use the link below

• Landlord/Bin Store Supplies – are these required on site? Location and the number of connections need to be clearly marked up on site. If these are missed and need to be added at a later date a redesign will be required
