software loading issue

I have a software program that is used in my office to run our estimating. Today when I went to load the software I received an error that it is unable to determine the QM DSMI. I have not touched the software at all. I do have the original installation files however I am concerned if I install again I will overwrite the database and lose my data. I need help getting this program to run.
