mySQL issue on website

Hi are migrating our old joomla site to wordpress so at the moment we have 2 sites running on the same hosting.
the main site is using Joomla but was setup long ago.
the new site we are testing is on a subdomain of the same domain. for the wordpress themes to work we had to upgrade the PHP version to 7.4 after that the old Joomla site stopped working and gave the below error.
Database connection error (1): The MySQL adapter 'mysql' is not available.
Does anyone know how to fix this
