Sounds Of The Universe Website
Budget: £10 – £15 GBP
Sounds of the Universe is a record store specialising in Reggae, Dubstep, House, Disco, Funk and Soul, Brazilian, Latin, African and world beats. We predominantly sell vinyl but also CD’s, books, DVD’s and merchandise. We also have a record label / book publishing company called Soul Jazz Records. Our physical shop is based in London’s Soho and we also have an e-commerce website that also sells digital MP3’s.

We are looking for an experienced PHP developer to help take over maintenance and sysadmin duties from our current outgoing developer. The codebase is over a decade old and we are currently in the process of creating a brand new website with a development company. However we need someone to look after the existing website whilst that project is underway.
This is the tech stack….
• PHP 7.4.24
- Bespoke CMS
- No PHP frameworks used. Very old site that has been added to over time. Mix of techniques, mostly procedural programming, with OOP added later in places.
- Not using composer
- Libraries used: phpMailer, Stripe-PHP.
• MariaDB 10.3.31
• Debian 10.11
• Apache
• Plesk Obsidian 18.0.38
• jQuery 2.1.1
As well as the public-facing website we also have a staging site used for testing code. Both of these sites sit on the same single server. The site codebase is available on our GitHub repository.
Your role would involve:
Monitoring the site for uptime (we use Statuscake)
Performing any routine system maintenance to ensure uptime
Resolving any business critical issues within an agreed resolution time
Being the first point of contact for any issues with regards to the website.
Your role would NOT involve:
Building any new functionality
The role would be wholly 100% remote and we’d prefer someone who is aligned with availability during UK working business hours.
