Senior PHP Engineer
Budget: $25 – $50 USD
The Navigo web platform and Navigo Assistant mobile app for Android and iOS provide an on-demand suite of risk management, analysis and intelligence tools to help manage risk relevant to our users and the environment around them. Our systems continuously ingest massive amounts of intel from hundreds of sources, which we process and introspect to provide a near real-time risk profile anywhere in the world.
Although we're based in Texas, United States, we work across many timezones as a multi-cultural team from many nationalities. As engineers we have a passion for producing a high-calibre product, in terms of its technical merit, design considerations and code quality, where testing is part of the development process, and documentation is a requirement.
We're searching for talent to join our growing engineering team, to help us continue our mission to build services that help people stay safe across the globe. You would begin in a supporting role, to help us assume the development overhead due to our rapid growth, and if successful, could be offered a permenant role in our team.
Requirements
- High proficiency in the English language, allowing for technical discussion
- At least 5 years experience with PHP (including version 8)
- At least 5 years experience with SQL (including views, functions and CTE)
- Working experience with an API-driven architecture
- Working experience with relational databases (Postgres)
- Working experience with version control using git (GitHub)
Desired Skills
- Fundamental understanding of PHP 8+ and its nuances
- Strong foundational understanding of HTTP (nginx)
- Experience building JSON APIs (REST or RPC)
- Experience building packages and using Composer
- Experience writing unit tests and integration tests (Postman)
- Understanding of both functional and OOP coding styles
- Working experience with PostGIS and GeoJSON data
- Working experience with OpenAPI schemas

- Enjoy working on challenging and complicated technical problems
- Able to work autonomously with intiative and apply creative solutions
- Understands the value of documentation, with some experience writing specs
- Capable of taking/giving constructive feedback and engaging in discussions
- Good communication skills, with the ability clearly convey ideas
