Salesforce + Laravel Integration Expert

I want to explore using Salesforce REST API with our application. I found a Laravel package that seems to be popular: omniphx/forrest
However, when I follow the instructions using ClientCredentials flow, and even get Copilot to give more detailed instructions, I cannot seem to connect. I would like to get assistance from someone who has successfully used this package to connect.
Completion of this project will simply be consulting with me to help me get connected to the rest api. I know my way around Laravel and APIs generally, but I'm new to Salesforce.
