Reduce high CPU usage on an e-commerce Wordpress website
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
High CPU usage has been a problem with my website for years and due to a recent limitation of my site by my hosts, I need to get it sorted out for good. This will require someone who is very knowledgeable about these particular jobs. Please only bid for this job if you are 100% confident on using Cron jobs and Ajax scripts. As an ecommerce site just before Xmas I cannot afford for any errors.
wp-cron.php and admin-ajax.php scripts are causing high CPU usage on my website. Currently, the WordPress script wp-cron.php is being executed upon each visit to the site which is too much. This could be due to a plugin, I am not sure. I have attempted to set up a 'real' cronjob in the past, but this threw up errors in Site Health Status and seemed to stop scheduled events from running. I have the plugin 'Follow-up Emails' which sends out regular emails to previous customers and these were not being sent so I had to revert back to wp-cron. I was also advised to use Chrome Console's development tools to see if a particular plugin was causing this but I am not sure how to use it, but maybe easy for someone who understands it.
On top of this, Google.bot has been making 100's of requests per minute to the point where the hosts have recently had to limit my site making it unusable for site visitors. I have reduced the crawl rate temporarily for Google which seems to have settled down for now but wonder if there is a reason, or something with the way my site is set up, that is causing this high level of crawling.
This job will include:
Taking a copy of my site to work on.
Finding the cause of the constant execution calls from admin-ajax-php and wp-cron and fixing the problem.
Checking and testing the site copy to make sure that all the scheduled events are still running without problems.
When finished and sure that all is working, make changes on live site.
With some previous jobs I have posted on freelancer I have been asked to check and check again every time some small change is made. I would prefer that whoever takes this job does all the checking first to make sure everything is working correctly before coming back to me for a final check.
