PHP Script for Email Fetching

I need help wirh PHP script as I'm currently using IMAP for email operations. My script fetches emails using PHP IMAP extension, but it's not running as efficiently as I'd like it to. Specifically, it's taking 13 seconds to return 50 emails if I am checking for attachments but it will take 3 seconds if I do not check for attachments when the same operation on Gmail as it only takes 3 seconds.
The successful applicant will have:

- Technical knowledge of the PHP IMAP extension library
