Need Help With .htaccess - showing subdomains as subfolder urls etc

Hi there. I have a project (PHP, MySQL, CPanel, WHM) where first, I want to try to put the main site in 1 subfolder vs being all spread across the public_html. The reason why is we want to have a lot of sub-sites.
I'd like to install those sub-sites as subdomains, but then reflect or mask the URLs as subfolder based urls. In other words.
site.maindomain.com looks like maindomain.com/site (so users never actually see site.maindomain.com).
Then there's a parent domain maindomain.com that's inside some folder similar to all the subdomains.
So it might look like
home/public_html/mainsite
home/public_html/subsite1
home/public_html/subsite2
home/public_html/subsite3
...and so forth (and yes, I already have wildcard subdomains support, so I can create subdomains easily)
Help me do this please! I would love it if you could just show me what to put in my .htaccess file.
