Modification of my online chat website

Hello I have an online chat site. But it was programmed with php5.4. The way to update chat messages is through REFLESH/RELOAD and also uses FRAMES. Therefore, when someone accesses the chat, it is always in reflesh to keep updating the messages. I would like to update it to the present day, as the mode of updating messages and people who join the group is not in REFLESH, but in AJAX, Bootstrap for example... and the chat page is RESPONSIVE.
