Modification on Opencart product import from XML/API scripts

Our store uses 6 different distributor warehouses for importing and updating products. On product import, we are taking product name, model, physical parameters (weight, dimensions, etc), specifications (such as Operating system installed for laptops) and photos. Once product is imported, when script runs again, it checks warehouse availability+price and updates product with that data.
This solution has a problem - if distributor creates brand new product, usually it does not have data such as photos, specifications, etc. We would like to run second import procedure seperately (1 time per week) which would take all available data from distributor API/XML and then update our products accordingly - right now, to update product data, we need to manually delete it and reimport.
This job needs to be done with script performance in mind since shop has 100k products right now with plans to grow to 200k in next 6 months.
