MediaWiki Database & Content Cloud Backup
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
Backup WikiSite Database, Site, and Custom Configurations to Cloud Project
We are seeking an experienced freelancer to dump the database, site content, and all custom configurations of our MediaWiki-based application and securely save them to our cloud storage. The application is currently hosted on AWS, and the backup is needed to preserve all data and customizations during planned downtime until we integrate AI-driven content population in the future.
Scope of Work
Database Dump: Export the entire MediaWiki database, including all tables (pages, revisions, users, etc.). Ensure the dump is complete, consistent, and compatible with future MediaWiki restores. Compress the database dump to optimize storage. Site Content Backup: Back up all site files, including MediaWiki core files, extensions, themes, and uploaded media (images, documents, etc.). Preserve directory structure and file permissions. Custom Configuration Backup: Back up the LocalSettings.php file and any additional configuration files (e.g., custom settings, environment-specific configs). Include all custom extensions, skins, and scripts installed or developed for the site. Document any non-standard configurations or dependencies (e.g., custom PHP settings, server-level configurations). Ensure all customizations are preserved to enable identical restoration of the site’s functionality and appearance. Cloud Storage: Save the database dump, site files, and configuration files to our designated AWS S3 bucket (credentials will be provided). Organize files in a clear, logical structure (e.g., separate folders for database dumps, site files, and configurations). Ensure secure transfer and storage with encryption. Documentation: Provide a detailed report of the backup process, including tools used, file sizes, storage locations, and a list of backed-up customizations. Include instructions for restoring the database, site files, and configurations to a new MediaWiki instance, noting any dependencies or custom steps. Technical Requirements Platform: MediaWiki (hosted on AWS EC2, with MySQL/PostgreSQL database). Tools: Familiarity with mysqldump, pg_dump, or equivalent for database export, and rsync, tar, or similar for file backups. AWS Knowledge: Experience with AWS EC2, S3, and IAM for secure access and storage. MediaWiki Expertise: Understanding of MediaWiki’s file structure, LocalSettings.php, and custom extensions/skins. Security: Ensure all data transfers are encrypted and follow best practices for handling sensitive data, including configuration files with potential credentials. Deliverables Compressed database dump file(s) stored in our AWS S3 bucket. Complete site file backup (including media, extensions, and themes) stored in our AWS S3 bucket. Backup of all custom configuration files (LocalSettings.php, custom extensions, skins, scripts) stored in our AWS S3 bucket. Documentation of the backup process, customizations, and restoration instructions. Confirmation of successful backup with file integrity checks. Timeline Duration: 5-7 days from project start. Deadline: [Insert preferred deadline, e.g., May 15, 2025].
Level of effort: 15 hours. Payment Terms: 100% upon successful completion and verification. Qualifications Proven experience with MediaWiki database, site, and configuration backups. Strong knowledge of AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM). Familiarity with Linux server administration, command-line tools, and MediaWiki customization. Excellent communication skills and ability to provide clear documentation. References or portfolio of similar projects preferred.
