Mail merge base64 string to image

We have a web form that collects user data including their e-signature. The data in the backend is saved as normal string except for the e-signature field, which is saved as base64 string. We are able to add all fields except this into a word document by way of mail merge but struggling to take the base64 string and convert to image.
