Laravel Developer for Historical Digital Archive Pilot Project -- 2
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
We are looking for an experienced Laravel developer for a short-term, well-defined pilot project. This project is the first phase of the complete modernization of a significant digital archive on the history of Ceará, Brazil (the "Portal da História do Ceará").
The goal of this pilot is to build a functional proof-of-concept for a single section of the archive, demonstrating a modern, responsive, and interactive user experience.
********** Scope of Work & Deliverables:***********
The freelancer will be responsible for developing a single, responsive web page using the Laravel framework. This page will feature content from a specific historical newspaper from 1924 (we will provide the documents) and must include the following functionalities:
***** Modern Image Gallery:*******
1) Display newspaper pages from high-resolution images that will be stored in a Cloudflare R2 bucket.
2) Implement an interactive gallery with optimized thumbnails, a "lightbox" viewer with zoom capabilities, and smooth navigation (previous/next page).
3 ) OCR-Powered Search:
4) Integrate with our back-end API to perform a text search.
The search functionality must be able to find and highlight terms within the text that has been extracted from the newspaper images via an OCR service.

Those pages must be perfectly functional and visually appealing on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

- A complete and detailed UI/UX design for the page, created in Adobe XD.
- Access to a pre-configured cloud server environment (DigitalOcean).
- Clear API endpoints to fetch the image URLs and the OCR-processed text.
- Active, professional, and direct project management and communication.

Strong experience with PHP and the Laravel Framework.
Proficiency in front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS3 (Flexbox/Grid), and modern JavaScript (ES6+).
Experience with REST API integrations.
Attention to detail and the ability to translate a design file into a pixel-perfect web page.
Good communication skills in English or Portuguese.
