We are looking for an engineer to help us develop a simple app using Laravel, preferably with intermediate level experience in Laravel and good English skills.
Requirements.
- Patience in trying to understand poor English (most important)
- Familiarity with the Laravel framework.
- Good understanding of app development principles
- Excellent communication skills in English
Duties
- Work with me to develop a simple app using Laravel.
- Provide English lessons throughout the development process
- Communicate progress and updates through the messaging platform of choice (Slack, Discord, etc.).
I am a Japanese engineer with about 2 years of programming experience. My goal is to join a foreign IT company and work in English. However, in my current job, I have no opportunity to use English at all. So I would like to use English to communicate and develop my skills.
Therefore, I would like to ask you to give me English lessons. Of course, I know that you are a programmer, not an English teacher. However, I want to create an opportunity to use English.
I would like you to communicate with me in English and create a simple application. In the process, I would be happy to discuss the following
1. discuss an outline of the application I would like you to build
2. if there are bugs in the code you have written, I will point them out and explain how I would like you to fix them
3. if there are improvements to the code I have written, I will ask you to tell me
4. other small talk (e.g. favorite foods, how you use AI, your favorite apps, etc.)
This is more of an online lesson in English conversation than a development request.
I have not yet decided what to create. It's for learning, so I won't make something large and challenging. A typical Todo app would be too easy; you can imagine something like the RealWorld demo app.

The main purpose of this task is to have a technical talk in English about the requirements of the app and how to write code. We may not really need the process of writing code, but I think that it would be hard to strike up a conversation because we have so little in common. I think it is better to have code so that we have clear things to talk about.
To reiterate, I do not emphasize programming skills. The purpose is not to create an application.
I would like you listen to me patiently and understand my poor English, or be proactive enough to point out my mistakes in English.
I usually write code in Laravel. Let's build something in Laravel.
I would like to try it out for a month first. My budget is $100. I expect to run about 20 hours a month.
Specifically, I would like to meet with you twice a week for 30 minutes with me in English to discuss your progress and any problems you are having (important), and also to chat with you when necessary. I would like you to spend 3 or 4 hours a week coding.
If you have any questions, you can ask me. I would rather you ask me questions. Communicating in English is a great way for me to learn. Also, it does not matter if there are bugs in the code. In fact, it is better for me if there are bugs, because there are more things to communicate.
This is probably a rare job for an engineer. The goal is to communicate more than write code, so I want you to have fun doing it. The goal of this job is not to complete the app, but to communicate well with me. During this time, I will share my views with you and try to understand yours.
This is not a job for an experienced engineer as the compensation I can pay you is low. This is a project for a freelancer who, like me, is either an inexperienced engineer or just starting out.
I can only pay you a small amount, but I will review your code and answer any questions you may have about Japan if you have any.
Please include the following two items in your proposal
1. how much English you use in your work (you do not have to be a native English speaker)
2. when you can have a meeting with me (perhaps there is a time difference between my country and yours. I can meet with you around 7:00 am on weekdays or 9:00-12:00 pm on weeknights, Japan time. I can also do anytime on weekends).
