Klaviyo Custom Event for Top-Level Customer Data

I am wanting to build segments in Klaviyo based on shipping method. I use Advanced Shipping Rules and that data is not "first level" data according to Klaviyo support. Same with recurring orders being segmented (we use Bold V1).
They suggested building a custom event using their API to be sent to Klaviyo as top-level data. Wanting to build for my website (midwestmeals.com)
