IBC World Tour Athlete Database Development (Backend Focus)
Budget: €30 – €250 EUR
The International Bodyboarding Committee (IBC) is seeking a skilled database developer to build the backend athlete database system for our IBC World Tour platform.
Important:
This project is backend only. Our WordPress website (built with Elementor) is already under development by a separate team. The website will only read from this database and apply its own design (CSS/styling).
No frontend design, WordPress development, or styling work is required in this project.
Scope of Work:
Develop a relational database (PostgreSQL or MySQL preferred) to manage:
Athlete profiles (Top Seeds, Pros, Amateurs).
Unique "socio numbers" for identification.
Event results, heat scores, points, and final classifications.
Historical data from 1982 to present.
Build an admin interface to:
Upload/import event results from Excel/CSV files (different formats depending on event organizer).
Map imported fields manually if necessary.
Validate, edit, and confirm imported data before saving to the database.
Organize database tables for easy, efficient querying by our web team.
Ensure scalability for future phases: real-time scoring, judge evaluations, membership features.
Provide technical documentation: database structure, import procedures, and sample queries.
Database Query Structure Requirements:
Our website team must be able to easily query:
Athlete Profiles: By socio number or name, returning personal data and competition history.
Event Results: By event ID or name, returning heat results, scores, and final standings.
Rankings: Global or category-specific athlete rankings.
Historical Records: By year and/or athlete.
The database must be optimized for read operations and ready for API access if needed later.
Technical Requirements:
PostgreSQL or MySQL database preferred.
Normalize data properly across Athletes, Events, Heats, Results, Rankings.
Include indexing for high-performance queries.
Admin interface can be web-based (simple, no styling needed) or CLI-based if preferred.
Secure access control (especially for data import functions).
GDPR compliance must be considered for athlete data storage.
Deliverables:
Fully functional database with all required tables and relationships.
Admin import tool (Excel/CSV file handling, validation, and mapping).
Documentation (tables, relationships, import procedures, example queries).
(Optional) Basic read-only API if developer proposes it to facilitate queries.
Timeline:
Phase 1 estimated delivery: 4 to 6 weeks from project start date.

Future Phases (not part of this project, but good to know):
Real-time scoring module.

Full membership and event management system.

Experience building scalable database systems.
Strong knowledge of dynamic data imports (Excel/CSV parsing).
Familiarity with sports management or event result systems (preferred but not required).
