Database Creation and Data Migration for MySQL Upgrade

Job ID: 38791203

Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD

Project Overview: I am seeking an experienced database programmer to create a new database and migrate existing data from an outdated MySQL 5.7 server to a new, upgraded MySQL 8.0 server. This project is essential due to the imminent decommissioning of the current server. The database powers the website www.dsefreight.com, and the transition must be seamless to minimize downtime.
Project Requirements:
Database Creation:
Design and implement a new database compatible with MySQL 8.0.
Maintain the existing structure and functionality from the current MySQL 5.7 database while incorporating some updates and modifications (no major changes).
The database should be programmed using PHP, consistent with the current setup.
Data Migration:
Migrate all existing data from the current MySQL 5.7 database to the newly created MySQL 8.0 database.
Ensure data integrity, consistency, and minimal downtime during migration.
The database currently contains data, so careful handling of data security is required during migration.
Functional Preservation:
Ensure all current database functionalities remain intact post-migration, including any existing queries, connections, or data processes.
Server Access, Configuration, and Integration:
The programmer will be provided with access to the server and is expected to install, configure, and connect the current website to the new database.
Ensure seamless integration so that the website functions without issues once the new database is in place.
Access and Permissions:
Recreate existing user roles and permission structures.
Minimal Downtime:
Plan and execute the migration to minimize service interruptions. Coordinate timing to reduce potential impact on website users.
Data Validation and Testing:
Perform comprehensive data validation to ensure all data has been accurately transferred.
Conduct post-migration testing to verify that all functionalities, processes, and user interactions are working as expected.
Ongoing Support:
The programmer must be available for contact post-project completion to address any potential issues or provide support if necessary.
Additional Details:
Complexity: The database includes 8 tables and has a relatively straightforward structure, with no stored procedures, triggers, or views. There are 5 constraints to ensure data integrity.
Data Presence: The database file includes data, indicated by 10 INSERT INTO statements. Review or anonymization of the data may be required to maintain security when sharing with contractors.
Planned Changes: While major changes are not expected, there will be necessary modifications and updates as part of this project to optimize or align the database with current standards.
Upgrades and added functionalities are to be determined (TBD) and may involve separate phases or future projects.
Any suggestions for optimizing the current structure for better performance on MySQL 8.0 are welcome.
Qualifications:
Extensive experience in database design, creation, and data migration, preferably with MySQL versions 5.7 and 8.0.
Proficiency in PHP for database programming and integration.
Proven ability to manage data migration projects with minimal downtime.
Experience in data validation, testing, and post-migration quality checks.
Ability to install, configure, and connect databases to websites.
Excellent communication skills to coordinate and report project status.
Willingness to provide ongoing support if needed after the project completion.
Timeline:
The project should commence as soon as possible due to the hosting provider's final deadline warning.
Budget:
Please provide an estimated cost proposal and timeline for the project.
Application Process: Interested contractors should submit their bids with a brief summary of their experience, examples of similar projects, and any initial thoughts on approaching this migration.
