Code Igniter developer needed
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
We need an experienced Code Igniter developer to resolve a number of issues that we have with a client's club membership site.
The site can be seen here: https://nimbusowners.co.uk/
The principal tasks are:
1. We would like to set up a text search facility which would work across:
• All editions of Nimbus News in the NN archive https://nimbusowners.co.uk/members/newsletters
• All Forum posts (and replies) https://nimbusowners.co.uk/members/forum
• All items in the Articles section https://nimbusowners.co.uk/members/articles
Members would be able to access the text search when they are logged in and after clicking on either Nimbus News, Articles or the Forum.
All the Nimbus News editions (known as Newsletters prior to Summer 2008) are text-searchable pdf’s. However, there is no facility to search the text while using the website. What we want is an easy way for the member to text search across the whole archive.
2. This issue came to light when our membership secretary, tried to send a targeted email from the website to a group of 17 members who had signed up for one of the Club events. She had clicked on ‘Select individuals’ and added the names of the intended recipients. Unfortunately, it just froze and she had no idea whether some or all of the emails had been sent or not. By checking the Postmark reports, I could see that the message had been sent to about 9 members. This is not the first time that we’ve had this problem. I advised that the email was sent in batches to groups of 6-8 members, and it worked fine. So the sending of a targeted email to a smaller group of members seems to work OK provided we keep each batch to total of 8 or less (?) – we don’t know the exact number. It’s been clear that our web server is sending out email messages in batches, each including <10 members’ mailboxes. Looking at the Postmark reports, it’d difficult to confirm whether this is the case or not, but it’s certainly possible. On the other hand, messages sent from the website to ‘All members’ works fine.
So we need to have a clear idea of the limits of sending a targeted email, or revise the software so no limit applies. While looking at the Postmark settings for our account I spotted the option of using ‘Broadcast emails’, which implies that emails would not be batched when sending out an ‘All members’ message. Our other concern is possible excessive consumption of the our monthly Postmark allowance, which would lead to unnecessarily inflated bills. This matter has come into focus because of our request for automatic mailing of all members whenever a new Forum post appears.
3. We would like to consider the possibility of alerting all members to a new Forum post https://nimbusowners.co.uk/members/forum
We envisage that each new Forum post (but not a reply to an existing post) would trigger an email to all members, provided the members concerned are opted in on the Permissions tab (new development) Permission to do this can initially be set to YES by default, as we already have their permission by virtue of all members signing up to ‘I am happy for the Club to send me regular emails’ about Club events and news on the Membership form.
Members who do not wish to ‘subscribe’ to this service can opt out later by changing their Permissions tab settings at any time.
The email would contain the text of the new Forum post and the name and email address of the member who posted it.
4. Google Maps fails to display the correct location of any event. Instead users see the error message: - Google Maps Platform rejected your request. The provided API key is invalid.
5. There is a complex issue regarding a spare parts database. We appreciate that having access to the code is essential to gauge the time needed for the project. Therefore we request that ONLY experienced Code Igniter developers need apply.
