Campus Map Service (CMS).
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
To improve the quality of life for wheelchair users, we will develop a Campus Map Service (CMS).
1. This system can be either a Web-based or a traditional standalone system.
2. Google Map API is an option for the map service. You can choose to develop your own map service.
3. Mark out some major buildings on campus for the purpose of demonstration
4. Enable users to search for a particular building
5. To make the input faster, when users type in characters, the system should provide a list of possible names as hints;
6. Enable users to get directions from the start address to the end address, provided that
a. Your system should have an option for wheelchair users, which is when selected the routes should be accessible for wheelchair users
i. if a building has many doors, the route should guide the wheelchair user to the automatic door
7. The graphical user interface (GUI) should be user-friendly and pleasant to the eyes.
8. This is a very meaningful project. Please consider factors, including but not limited to public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
Questions to Answer
1. Do you plan to use existing Map API or develop your own?
2. What programming language and platform are you going to use?
3. How would you store the longitude and latitude data of each building?
4. How does your system make maintenance easy, such as add/remove a building?
Tools to Use for Design and Development
1. You must use some UML CASE tools to make your analysis and design, such as IBM Software Architect, Rational Rose, Star UML, etc.
2. You must use Microsoft Project to work out your work plan and use MS Project to keep track of the progress of your project.
3. You may use Microsoft Visio to draw Entity-Relation diagrams (ERDs), and data flow diagrams (DFDs).
4. You must use some Unit Test tools (e.g., JUnit, CppUnit, etc.) to perform formal testing.
5. You must use some version control system, e.g., GitHub, to keep the consistency of your code.
