CSV report/export for custom wordpress data

Job ID: 34164115

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I'm looking for a long term developer (at least a year, spending 10-20 hours a week ideally) for WordPress sites (and potentially other php stuff). I'm an owner of a web hosting company and my customers like me because I get stuff done quickly, and know who they are. My customers tend to find me by word-of-mouth she that I can fix problems that they've had with cheap web hosts, so I have a lot of customers who have interesting requirements of one sort or another.

Don't bother responding to this until you've read the whole post. I know I'm wordy, but the bots that automatically bid on jobs are not going to cut it.

I'm an efficiency nut, and if you can't code for high performance, high caching, don't bother taking this position, you will be scored poorly.

Take a look at a few of my sites to see what I mean:

https://artofmanliness.com
https://primalpalate.com
https://foodsocial.io

They all have their HTML (as well as images, css, js, etc) cached by cloudflare very heavily and use very little system resources because very few hits actually make it can to the original server. Most WordPress plugins do not work in this environment. They all use supercache/totalcache in advanced mode with nginx as the web server.

For artofmanliness, make all users anonymous is enabled, with some extra super cache plugins to force it to do the right thing in all circumstances. Many developers who help work on this site (I just do the hosting and major infrastructure stuff) don't understand this and disable supercache while they are working, which causes cloudflare to cache custom versions of the site (and ends up showing the admin bar to unauthenticated visitors, etc). If you can't explain to me why that happens, again, I'm not interested.

Today's project is for foodsocial.

I have a custom table in wordpress with two columns of userids, I need a custom page in the WP admin tools menu that gives the website owner the ability to download the table, after a little data massaging.

The format will be the first column has the "follow_to" user id, and then subsequent columns are email addresses of the "follow_from" userids (each row will have a different number of columns based on the number of rows in the table. We'll use ssh and screen and we'll kind of do the project together so I'll get to see how you work, debug when something goes wrong, etc.

Very simple but I want to see how you work and how it goes.

The entire site is under source control using subversion, and you'll have to use that tool.

You can make edits either by ssh'ing to the dev server making the edits directly via emacs or vi (I can install another editor if you'd like, if there is a debian package for it), or you can edit stuff on your own computer and check it in via subversion, and then either use my web script to update it on the dev server or login and run svn update directly. Once I've approved the change, I'll merge it to the main branch and run svn update on the main site

I've architected the entire site, and I think things are reasonably straightforward once you get used to where stuff lives and how it interacts.

This particular project is php only and should be quite quick to implement. The goal is a long term relationship. I'm posting this as a fixed price contract (and freelancer required the large range, this is an hour, maybe two at most), but I expect to use an hourly project once we get to know each other.

If you made it this far, reply with "yup, I read it" so your bid won't get thrown out. (I'm expecting ~30 bids, most of them automated, so if you got this far and understood what I'm talking about, you're in the top 10. Ask questions for things you don't understand and we'll work through them. I don't want to waste either of our time. I realize how much work it is to bid on projects like this that are small, but there is a lot of work available and I'm a good boss and my customers are great as well, so this will be a great ongoing job for you.
